Course overview

This online course with Pamela Redpath will look at how to make sure you are getting the financial planning right internally – setting realistic project and organisational budgets, which cover full costs of service delivery, monitoring budgets and how to recognise when to take corrective action.

Overall course aim

The aim of this online course is to look at setting project and organisational budgets, which are realistic and cover full costs of service delivery. It will also look at how to monitor budgets and recognise when to take corrective action. 

Course objectives

This online course is packed full of content to help you understand the importance of good financial management.

Budgeting: Why we need a realistic budget; Thinking about the different types of costs; Setting budgets; Making sure it all stacks up.

Full cost recovery: Why we need to use full cost recovery; Practical use of FCR; How this can be used for costing services.

Budget monitoring and reporting: Monitoring – actual v budget; What do variances tell us; Reporting to the Board; Using budget monitoring internally.

Cashflow projections: Purpose of cashflow projections; Constructing a simple cashflow; Cashflows as an options’ appraisal tool.

Who was the course aimed at?

This course is aimed at people requiring an introduction to the principles of budgeting and financial management, in addition to the basic technical knowledge and skills to implement these principles.
