Event summary and materials

What was covered in your sessions?

Dean from the Scottish Government’s Digital Academy opened the session by sharing their Agile training programmes which build skills for digital transformation. Dean explained how a network of partners including Service Design Academy are delivering expert training.

Next, Katie, Kim and Claire from the Service Design Academy facilitated an interactive exercise “Breaking Down Assumptions”. Everyone was asked to consider how our inherent biases are a significant barrier to delivering inclusive services. We discussed how taking a co-design approach, and using Service Design tools and methods, can lead to meaningful participation. By engaging service users we can reach a fuller understanding of the problems they face, and by involving them in shaping solutions, we can all deliver better services for our communities.

Was there any useful feedback or reflection from the participants?

The team had some great conversations after the session with people who wanted to find out how service design could help them and their teams deliver better services.

Some comments we received on social media:

“Feeling inspired”

“Important (and fun!) interactive session on the importance of service co-design innovation and avoiding assumptions”

“Loved the persona exercise to test our assumptions”
