The charitable purposes of ESJE are the advancement of education and the advancement of the arts, through the provision of music workshops and courses in order to deliver education and the development of musical knowledge and skills, particularly but not exclusively in the genre of jazz.
Since opportunities for music education are being severely restricted due to cuts in public funding, East of Scotland Jazz Education has been established to provide learning opportunities for musicians of all ages, levels and instruments/voices. The link between music education and general well-being and educational achievement is being increasingly proved by academic research. East of Scotland Jazz Education exists to ensure that the public in the east of Scotland and further afield have lifelong opportunities to make the most of the benefits which involvement in music can offer.
