Isle of Bute Resilience Team

- Charity registered in Scotland SC048842
The Isle of Bute Resilience Team aims to build a stronger, more resilient community, better able to support one another, as well as statutory services, in times of need. This will take many forms; from supporting the implementation of the community emergency plan and being a point of contact for Scottish Water regarding distributing bottles if the island has issues with its water supply again, right through to assisting the emergency services with search and rescue operations, and marshalling events.
Bute itself has a standard population size of approximately 6500 people, and our team is made up of individuals from all walks of life, geographically spread across the island ensuring that we are able to respond swiftly and effectively to any emergency situations that arise. In the summer time, our population swells dramatically due to the influx of tourists, and this is where our teams come into their own. Living on the island, and knowing the area very well, we are able to respond much more rapidly in a joined up approach with emergency services if someone is reported missing, etc.
We also plan to assist at local events reducing the cost and need to rely on outside contractors and improving the self-sufficiency of the island(ers), whilst enhancing community relationships and increasing potential. These future events will help provide the community with a safer environment, knowing people will be there to assist should the need arise.
Currently, we have monthly training sessions and these have included topics such as first aid and map reading. However, in order to fulfil the ambitions of the group, we require support to purchase equipment, and to take additional training if/when required.
The need for this project has arisen from the community itself to ensure that our islanders are supported to feel safe and secure in times of emergency, knowing that the resilience team are able to respond swiftly to any emergency that may present itself.
