Helensburgh Art Hub

  • Membership number 7125

Helensburgh Art Hub is a social enterprise which provides a contemporary art space where members of the local community have access to a range of art workshops, classes, exhibitions and events. The aim of the Art Hub is to use these opportunities to improve social inclusion, reduce rural isolation, improve social and mental well-being and strengthen community links. Since it was set up in March 2019, the Art Hub has formed strong partnerships with other voluntary organisations within the Helensburgh area and has provided a wide range of mainstream workshops for children and adults and bespoke workshops to meet the needs of specific groups. These groups include children who have a disability or additional support need; adults who have experienced mental ill health and adults who have experience of substance addiction. Feedback from these group members has been extremely positive and the aims of the organisation have been exceeded by engagement with these individuals. In addition, the Art Hub acts as a focal point for these groups to meet and there has been interaction between groups as they worked on a larger community project. This project connected many sectors of the community as they worked together to create a piece of art. The project culminated in the piece of art being displayed at a community festival, where the Managing Director of the Art Hub liaised with a local military organisation to highlight the achievement of the project. The Art Hub has become well respected within the local community and has provided employment opportunities for two young people on Government Kickstart programmes. These young people have benefitted from the experience of working within the Art Hub and learning a wide range of skills. They will be supported to find employment on completion of their placement. This is another valuable role for the Art Hub and one which is hoped will continue once the current candidates have moved on to new employment opportunities. The Art Hub also provides a gallery space for new artists and crafters to display their art work and attend discussions and exhibitions. This aspect of the business enables emerging local artists to have their work promoted and provides inspiration for community members who aspire to become artists.
