Helensburgh Community Hall Ltd (known as Helensburgh Community Hub) has been operating for just a year to create a warm and welcoming space that belongs to, can be used by, anyone and everyone in our community. We run our own activities, support others to run their groups and services, and provide a base for several community organisations. We have office space that is rented by Argyll and Bute Rape Crisis, Key Housing, Helensburgh and Lomond Foodbank and the Red Cross mobility aids service. We have also recently been joined by Argyll and Bute Citizens Advice. There are a wide range of local groups and organisations who use the Hub for everything from sewing circles to a new youth club and art classes for kids. Weekly meetings of both Alcoholics Anonymous and Cocaine Anonymous are held in the Hub. Partnership working is a key focus for the Hub: we support a group that promotes and supports the use of reusable nappies, a social group for neurodivergent teens and community yoga classes. We have also recently started a menopause café in partnership with a local group called Females Tales and we work with Plastic Free Helensburgh on beach cleans and environmental awareness raising. Other activities in the Hub include addiction service support sessions and ad hoc meetings for community organisations including the North Clyde Archaeological Society, Friends of Duchess Woods and the Helensburgh Railway Club. A special and unique part of this community hub is our Book Nook, which is stocked entirely from donations and run by volunteers. We sell the books at very accessible prices and reinvest the income into the upkeep and development of the Hub, especially literacy related projects. We are now beginning to develop a major project to better support volunteering both within the Hub and across the wider community.
