Ballachulish Community Association (BCA) owns and operates the village hall for the benefit of the village and wider south Lochaber community providing a venue for social and physical activities. The community is very much at the heart of what we do. The hall is regularly used by various local groups, young and old and we also have weddings and parties, music and drama as well as weekend lets which bring in valuable extra income especially now with spiralling electricity costs. During Lockdown, BCA expanded its reach as the delivery body for Covid 19 support and this has morphed into general wellbeing support wider than the confines of the hall. This includes a food-share project, recycling Coop "waste" through a Wellbeing Shed which also contains books, DVDs and jigsaws. Through our enhanced role, we aim to deliver a more inclusive, fair and cohesive society with participation. We are currently working with the Scottish Land Fund and Highland Council on a Community Asset Transfer to acquire land around the hall. The initial purpose is a hall extension, providing more up-to-date and comfortable meeting rooms, a bigger kitchen, more storage and an e-charging point not present in the 1985-built hall. In addition, we want to undertake environmental improvements and are looking at providing budget self catering accommodation and other tourism infrastructure to bring in external income. Progress with the land transfer is slow! But it has widespread support from the community and will bring significant benefits.
