St Andrews Environmental Network (StAndEN) is a community-led charity and development trust working locally to reduce the carbon footprint of St Andrews and the surrounding area. We aim to empower individuals and businesses in the area to take the actions necessary to combat the climate emergency, tackle fuel poverty, and bring people together to develop a blueprint for a more sustainable St Andrews. We deliver a range of projects, events and skills training to meet the aims of the community – working towards a greener future.We were established by the Royal Burgh of St Andrews Community Council in 2010. We currently employ 13 staff and have around 15 regular volunteers. We are governed by a volunteer management committee, elected from our membership.This year we opened the Eco Hub which has become the base for all our project and our outreach education programmes. We are developing a climate friendly garden to the rear of the property and will be hosting a number of events in the garden over the next year. The Eco Hub is currently open 5 days a week with a late night on Thursdays. We run topic focused exhibitions, deliver advice on all aspects of sustainable living and have a small refill shop selling affordable food.Sustainable St Andrews is the current initiative led by StAndEN in an effort to develop a clear and unified sustainability strategy supported by all the stakeholders and the wider community in St. Andrews.Cosy Kingdom partnership with Greener Kirkcaldy and Citizens Advice and Rights Fife, providing a home energy advice service across Fife. The partnership helps over 2,000 homes a year keep warm and save money.Climate Friendly Homes - StAndEN is a partner in Climate Action Fife, an innovative Fife-wide project, lead by Greener Kirkcaldy delivering different activities to tackle the climate emergency. StAndEN is the delivery partner for Climate Friendly homes.Clean & Green are hands on in maintaining the cleanliness and wellbeing of the local area, as well as spearheading the charity's projects. Towards a Plastic Free St Andrews, in partnership with Transition University of St Andrews and the University of St Andrews we have designed a strategy for cutting out single use plastics and litter across town and University.StAnd ReUse - Working together to reduce waste in St Andrews. This partnership collects household items from students and residents throughout the town for redistribution across the local and university community.
