The House of Hope (Scotland)

  • Membership number 8105
  • Charity registered in Scotland SC052644

It is proposed that The House of Hope will be a bespoke wellbeing and holistic centre specifically designed to support those impacted by breast cancer in Edinburgh and the surrounding areas. The House will be a haven away from the sterile hospital or clinical setting, where those who are impacted by breast cancer can be who they need to be in a safe space, whilst being offered connectivity, support, and friendship.

Cancer is hard and takes its toll on you and those around you. We aim to nurture, improve the quality of life of our users, and enrich their emotional wellbeing by offering sanctuary and support within a home-like environment at a time when they need it most.

To achieve this we will:

➢ offer fully and part funded services to patients, family members and their children to help to reduce health inequalities.

➢ work in collaboration with the NHS, breast cancer service providers and other organisations providing services that will be of benefit to those impacted with breast cancer.

➢ have a team of trained professional class and workshop facilitators who will work closely with service users to provide tailored support.

➢ offer support, complimentary and counselling therapies to help those impacted by breast cancer navigate the challenges and emotional impact of the diagnosis.

➢ ensure that our service is person centred with the voice of the service user at the heart of The House.

➢ treat every service user, volunteer, fundraising and team member with kindness and respect.

Values:

We are inclusive: The House of Hope will support and welcome people from all backgrounds. The door is always open no matter who you are or where you from. We will support family members and carers as well as those with a breast cancer diagnosis at any stage.

We are compassionate: Everything that we do within The House of Hope will be done with kindness, professionalism, and care. The House will provide a space where you are free from judgement and can be who you need to be.

We have respect: We believe that people should be always treated with dignity and understand that no two persons’ experiences with breast cancer are the same.

Confidentiality is key: The feedback of all our supporters and service users is at the heart of The House.

We are collaborative: We will consistently strive to build and develop partnerships and relationships with other community health organisations so that we can do our best for people impacted by breast cancer.

One woman is diagnosed every 10 minutes with breast cancer in the UK. In Edinburgh alone, there were 8,200 appointments in 2022 for systematic breast cancer chemotherapy. On average, 100 new cases were reviewed by medical oncology every week.

The NHS do not have the operational resources nor funding to provide additional care and support for breast cancer patients in and around Edinburgh. This is where The House of Hope will fill the void within Edinburgh and the surrounding area.
