Springburn Unity Network (SUN) was established in 2021 in Springburn to unite people from all walks of life by promoting and emphasising the importance of UNITY within our Communities. Springburn is one of the most diverse communities in Glasgow and the principle organisers of the organisation consists of people from multicultural backgrounds including local indigenous that are residing in the area. We came together as a group to support each other and developed the aim to address isolation and provide an opportunity for integration through social interactions and activities, building confidence and solidarity in relationships between people who might not otherwise have an opportunity to interact. Several of our members have qualified as Community Development workers and our core methods sit within this discipline and also hold PVG certificates. We specifically seek to unify people from different cultural backgrounds including local indigenous people. We will do this through the formulation of opportunities to volunteer, contribute to local issues, (eg: group litter picks and tree planting) and through social therapeutic activities, sport, cultural exchange and community based learning.Furthermore, we aim to guide individuals and groups to progress and develop according to their needs, sign posting our members in response to any arising issues, and making connections with other organisations of support. The organisation practises five main core values of Dignity, the right to be respected and valuedDiversity, Celebrating the diverse characteristics of people living in SpringburnUnity, Joining together Justice, Fair treatment for all and an opportunity to meet others on equal termsHonour. Upholding our values as an organisation and holding our members in esteemThe charity prioritises value and appreciation among our staffs, volunteers and members by promoting their personal achievements and success to the wider community. Thus increasing the visibility of a diverse group, located in Springburn and demonstrating the value of working in unity with each other. The organisation’s purposes are:1. To bring together and unite people from all walks of life in North and North East of Glasgow, identify their needs and supporting their development by sign posting towards other support networks. 2. Implement programs, workshops and activities related to community cohesion, specifically encouraging children and the young people to recognise the importance of environmental care.3. Organising inclusive leisure/recreational visits, aerobics, sports and community activities which build cohesion.4. Organising programs, activities and promote which support inclusivity.5. Carrying out charitable work to achieve the goals of the Charity.6. To provide a platform to promote the importance of Unity within our communities, building opportunities of integration and socialisation for people as a form of sanctuary, aimed specifically and to those who are socially excluded in their local community.
