We are a registered Scottish charity and a Limited Company dedicated to the development and wellbeing of Strathpeffer & District. Originally founded on 12.03.1980 as 'Strathpeffer Community Association', we were renamed 'Strathpeffer Community Development Trust Limited' on 03.02.21 to reflect our expanded mission and community development focus. Strathpeffer Community Development Trust (SCDT) has a vision for a socially connected, economically resilient, environmentally aware and culturally vibrant village that actively supports its community. The Trust owns and operates the Strathpeffer Community Centre on School Road - a welcoming, inclusive hub where residents of all ages can come together for education, arts, recreation and community life. Since August 2023, the Trust also owns the Station Trading community shop situated at the old station. In addition to selling fairly traded toys, gifts and cards, and new and second-hand books, the community shop strives to support ethical lifestyles and reduce unnecessary plastic packaging by providing a refill service for dried food (pulses, rice, oats, herbs, spices etc) household cleaners and body care products. It also provides a route to market for over a dozen local artisans making honey, candles, cards, pottery, jewellery and hand-turned wooden bowls, boards and utensils. The Trust's four part-time paid staff members are supported by a strong team of volunteers who work closely with statutory bodies, local organisations and community groups to further the aims of the Trust. The Board members aim to to identify needs, secure funding and deliver projects that genuinely benefit the whole community. They are committed to transparency, accountability, and the highest standards of governance. We have strong links with other Strathpeffer community organisations (eg the Peffery Way Association, the Strathpeffer Pavilion Trust, Strathpeffer Residents Association, (the community park), the Highland Museum of Childhood and the Strathpeffer Community Council) as several of the SCDT board members also hold positions on one or more of these other local boards. The Trust has recently reviewed and updated the 5 year Community Action Plan and the Place Plan, following consultation with residents, in writing and in person.
