The Museum of Lead Mining (MoLM), Wanlockhead, is a heritage museum and visitor attraction. It is in the highest village in Scotland, nestling in the Lowther Hills near the Southern Uplands Way in Dumfries and Galloway. The museum is both accredited and holds a Recognised Collection of national significance. Its charitable purpose is to preserve and conserve the industrial and social heritage related to the local, historic lead mining industry, as well as sharing this information with the general public. The heritage is shared through the Visitor Centre Museum; guided tours of Straitsteps Cottages, representing domestic life in 1750,1850 and 1920; guided tours of the historic Miners’ Library and guided tours of Lochnell Mine, the only underground mine tour in Scotland. Wanlockhead Museum Trust (WMT), is a not-for-profit charity/SCIO (SC001508).
