Pillar of Hope is a registered Scottish charitable organisation (SC052720) that was established to alleviate the sufferings of vulnerable teenagers, younger and older adults because of age, ill health, disability, financial hardship, or other disadvantages in the communities. Pillar of Hope's free support services are geared towards alleviating concerns of social, physical, and mental health disadvantages such as poverty, self-neglect, social isolation, loneliness, unkempt living environment, difficulty engaging with services, and evidence that risks are escalating.

Our mission is to inspire hope, empower positive lifestyle choices, and foster a nurturing environment where as many vulnerable individuals can thrive physically, mentally, and emotionally.

Key Focus Areas:

Group Activity Programs: Young People's Group, Young Adult Group and Reengage Group.

Young People's Group: POH offers young people from 10 to 16 years old quarterly one-week retreat camping. Retreat programmes include social and physical wellness, mental health support, and emotional resilience skills promotion. Activities designed to instill hope and guide young people on their journey to holistic well-being.

Young Adults Group: This group's ages are between 17 and 25 years old and the group's activity programmes include meetings/workshops tailored to improve young adults' relaxation and reduction of stress, learn new skills, be creative, spend time in nature, and look after their physical health and mental well-being.

Reengage Group: This is the adults’ activities group that has a regular fortnightly tea meeting to re-engage vulnerable older adults, with challenging social and health issues. The group activities are tailored to meet the alleviation of loneliness and social isolation experienced by older people living alone and suffering from some challenges like long-term health conditions and mental well-being issues.

Home Visit Support Services: Some vulnerable individuals in the communities who need immediate home visits are provided with such services and where necessary their needs are highlighted to the social work department for support.

Call Companion Service: POH provides ‘call companions service’ which enables socially isolated vulnerable adults receiving our services to call on the phone, seek advice and, information, or have a few minutes chat if feeling lonely or worried, with our trained staff and volunteers.

Mental Well-being Education and Awareness Campaigns: Pillar of Hope organises campaigns and enlightenment programmes activities on public health and self-management information through training workshops, seminars, and enlightenment campaigns in Aberdeen City and other parts of Scotland.

Befriending and Mentoring Services: We provide befriending and mentoring services for vulnerable young people and adults who are socially isolated or about to be socially isolated. Our trained volunteer befrienders working under the guidance of POH to alleviate social isolation, loneliness, and disadvantages from language or cultural barriers, thereby supporting healthy mental well-being.

Food Crisis and Emergency Finance Services: Pillar of Hope provides supports for individuals in food crises and acute finance emergencies with hamper packs, food items, and one-off cash support. POH has plans to open food banks to cushion the effects of poverty for those experiencing increasing hardship in the communities.
