ReSet Scenery C.I.C.

  • Membership number 8813

Reset Scenery is a Scotland wide, not-for-profit company dedicated to providing the Scottish Creative Industries (SCI) with an environmentally responsible & economical alternative to landfill for its post-production scenic waste. All proceeds are reinvested into the realisation of a fully closed loop system to tackle the huge volume of scenic waste created annually in Scotland.Reset Scenery aims to transform the Scottish Creative Industries' materially & financially wasteful, linear scenic fabrication and disposal processes into a sustainable, circular asset, accessible by organisations at all scales. Our strategy tackles critical issues at opposite ends of the production cycle, creating a positive feedback loop to greatly reduce the amount of carbon and waste in the SCI. By capturing scenic resources for reuse and extracting materials from the postproduction waste stream whilst simultaneously modifying fabrication practices to increase future resource recovery, we are actively contributing towards the Scottish Government’s Net Zero 2045 obligations through the reduction of waste, carbon and associated environmental harms. At present, companies, community groups & Schools rarely have the expertise, financial, labour, or physical resources necessary to address these issues & develop or deploy alternative scenic fabrication and post-production practices, forcing a transition to sustainable practices to remain ancillary to the company’s core objectives and activities.Reset Scenery aims to provide a large-scale solution to transform the Stage, Screen & Events sectors from a linear to circular model through a combination of strategies, broadly encapsulated in four main areas of activity.1) Disrupt the current high loss, linear waste stream, through the expansion of our circular marketplace and reclaimed asset supply chain.2) Greatly improve the efficiency & recovery rates of materials from postproduction scenic waste through the development & open source deployment of alternative fabrication practices, utilising new sustainable materials, tools and techniques.3) Provide fair access & reducing the cost barriers to accessing scenic resources, cascading high value, high quality items from top tier productions to all scales; widening access to resources that would otherwise be out of reach for school, community & small-scale organisations.4) Promoting & creating SCI engagement in a Just Green Transition through advocacy, consultancy, knowledge sharing & training The intended outcomes of our activities are to successfully create the physical resources, skills, knowledge & mindsets necessary for producers & users of scenery to easily adopt and adapt sustainable fabrication into their practice, driving wider change across multiple sectors, moving the creative industries towards a sustainable production future.Additionally, our cross sector, cross scale program of activities & services are designed support all scales of the creative industries reduce their scenic waste & carbon footprints whilst widening access and removing the financial barriers that prevent smaller organisation from being able to incorporate scenery in their productions.
