Kippen Village Hall is a community space providing sports and leisure facilities for Kippen and its surroundings. Kippen is a thriving village in Stirlingshire. It is one of 15 parishes in Stirlingshire (population 92,600). The Hall has played a central role in the life of our community for more than a century. It is used for a diverse range of activities; The nature of our facility, being a public space, means we are open to all and include everyone in our potential audiences and users. Wherever we can, we reach out to groups who may struggle for support and assistance and offer free help, when possible. The hall has many regular weekly users and one-off events with a capacity of 120 users seated, or 150 mixed seated/standing, and can accommodate larger events. Our regular users include groups that provide a wide range of activities within walking distance of the village centre, including Playgroups, Mother and Toddler groups, fitness/sport sessions, Strength Balance; Badminton Club and health and wellbeing sessions (e.g. Yoga). Regular annual events also reflect the diversity of users of the hall, including the Overs 60’s Christmas lunch; Kippen Horticultural Society Flower and Produce Show; Burns Supper; Active Stirling; Fusion Flowers Workshop; Christmas Fayre; Kippen School; Local Football, Rugby and Tennis Clubs; Kippen Dance Club; and the New Year Ceilidh, amongst others. The Hall serves a village community of around 1090 people, with approximately 29% being 65+ years, 19% being up to 17 years and 52% being 18-64 years (population census statistics 2022). There are some 6000 in the wider “Kippen Parish”. The village population continues to grow, with significant new-build housing. Our monthly footfall is around 700 people and, with individual events such as celebration dinners, weddings, private parties and school plays, which use the hall to its capacity. The hall benefits some 133 children each month (amortised annual figure) and around 203 over 65-year-olds, at classes and events. It is the space for activities to improve health and well-being particularly for the retired and elderly and parents and toddlers providing childcare and child development, education and parental support and guidance. The community events like Christmas dinner for the over 60’s, whist drives and the annual flower show help to combat social exclusion and loneliness. The local primary school accesses the stage for performances, bringing the community and families together. The sports clubs offer social interaction for teenagers and young people; the hall also provides support to our Ukrainian community. It is heated and is a safe warm environment for passive social activities for local groups and charities, with free Wi-Fi. We address the issues of mental and physical well-being, positive lifestyle change, social interaction against loneliness and isolation, combatting fuel poverty, as well as being somewhere to enjoy local activities and meet friends.Another vital role is to provide Stirling Council with a polling station for local and national elections, and is registered with Stirling Council’s Risk and Resilience Department for use in local, or national emergencies.
