Kirkbean Village Hall serves as a vital hub for Kirkbean and its surrounding rural communities, offering a wide range of services and activities that promote social wellbeing, health, cultural enrichment, and community resilience. The hall provides regular weekly sessions including Pilates, pickleball, and badminton, fostering physical activity and social connection across various age groups. Monthly community events such as bingo nights and a mobile cinema contribute to social engagement and entertainment in an otherwise remote area.Throughout the year, the hall hosts significant community events, including an annual Beer Festival, two craft fairs, and exhibitions linked to the Spring Fling artist programme. A recent highlight was the highly successful Heritage Exhibition Weekend, which attracted both local and former residents, showcasing artwork, historical maps, and photographs.Kirkbean Village Hall also functions as a venue for private hire, accommodating weddings, parties, and other celebrations. It is regularly used for charity fundraising events, such as beetle drives, cycling challenges, and themed displays like “40 Years of Playmobil.” The hall also supports youth development through its collaboration with Young Farmers. In response to the closure of the local primary school, the hall has taken on additional responsibilities, including the management of the community Rag Bag Bin to support local recycling efforts. During the festive season, the hall offers wreath-making workshops and themed social events such as Coronation Afternoon Teas and Tea Dance afternoons, aimed particularly at older residents. The hall operates a community lottery with modest prize offerings, further contributing to local engagement. It also serves as a base for visiting hot food vendors during the winter months, ensuring access to warm meals and promoting food security.Following recent power outages that left vulnerable residents without heating or cooking facilities, the hall is in the process of establishing itself as a recognised Warm Place. This initiative will offer a safe, heated environment with access to refreshments, companionship, and basic emergency services during the colder months.Kirkbean Village Hall plays a crucial role in maintaining community cohesion and supporting the wellbeing of residents, demonstrating adaptability, inclusivity, and a strong commitment to serving local needs.
