2,000 children drown in Vietnam each year, more than 5 children everyday. Many of these lives could be saved simply if the children had been taught how to swim. Drowning is described as a silent epidemic by the World Health Organisation.Swim Vietnam, is a UK registered charity which works in flood-prone Central Vietnam. We believe every child deserves the opportunity to learn essential swimming skills and develop water safety awareness, regardless of their background or circumstances. Our mission is to reduce the rates of drowning in Vietnam. Our core focus is providing high quality survival swimming lessons and classroom-based water safety education to Vietnamese children, training locals as internationally accredited swimming and water safety teachers, trainers and presenters. We work closely with government authorities and other drowning prevention INGOs to bring swimming and water safety education to all parts of Vietnam.Since our inception in 2008 we have:• Taught over 35,000 children survival swimming skills• Delivered water safety education to more than 256,000 students• Trained over 5,000 local educators, including 1,500 swim instructors and 3,500 school-based water safety teachers• Created inclusive programs for children with disabilities• Strengthened community resilience in high-risk, flood-prone areas by training life guards for local beaches
