  • Employers will be more informed about the barriers young women face in the workplace and encouraged to adopt policies and practices that create more supportive work environments for young women.

Description

The Young Women’s Movement is informed, shaped and led by and for young women who want meaningful change in their lives and across society. Our research for the Status of Young Women in Scotland 2020/21 focused on young women’s employment. We found that 43% of young women felt they did not have equal access to work opportunities. Recently, the Young Women’s Trust found that 2 in 5 young women have experienced discrimination in work or when looking for work. Inequitable workplace practices limit young women’s access to promotions, higher-paying jobs, and decision-making positions. We have been working with a collective of young women and girls to co-design a new campaign aimed at employers and business leaders to understand the challenges faced by young women in the workplace. This event will inform organisations about the root causes of workplace inequality and gain tools and strategies to address them. This interactive workshop will include a presentation with opportunities to share experiences and best practice. The presentation will be delivered by The Young Women’s Movement and the young women who have co-designed this campaign.
