Overall aim

The aim of the event is to provide charity trustees, volunteers and members of the public with an understanding of the recent changes to charity law.

Description

Join us for an informative session exploring the recent changes in charity law and their implications for charities and advisors. This event will cover key legal changes:

  • Introduction of the charity trustee database
  • Extension of disqualification criteria for charity trustees and volunteers
  • Increased OSCR inquiry powers
  • Removal of charities from the register for failing to submit annual accounts
  • Refusal of charitable status to applicants with limited or no connection to Scotland
  • Publication of first and last names of charity trustees
  • Publication of all charities’ accounts

We will discuss the practical impact of these changes and outline steps charities should consider to ensure compliance. The session will also provide an overview of how these changes have been implemented to date, including reflections on the use and impact of OSCR’s enhanced regulatory powers.

Attendees will gain insights into the latest data on charity trustees, emerging trends, and how this information supports effective regulation. OSCR representatives will share updates on key regulatory areas, ongoing work, and upcoming changes of interest to the sector.

This session is designed to equip charities and advisors with the knowledge and tools needed to navigate the evolving regulatory landscape. There will be opportunities for questions and discussion throughout.
