Licketyspit is Scotland’s leading national children’s theatre & play charity. Storyplay, our children’s rights-based approach and methodology, underpins a range of high impact projects that address the effects of poverty, isolation and trauma, on children under twelve, their families and communities. Inclusive actor-pedagogue-led sessions are framed by the unique Licketyplaycard repertoire of traditional/new games, rhymes, songs, imaginary play activities, dressing-up, reflective drawing and conversation, often including a healthy meal. Licketyspit’s actor-pedagogues are skilled social facilitators expert at child-centred intergenerational engagement. Licketyspit distributes playcards and trains Storyplay Champion families and local professionals to support legacy. Licketyspit’s Children & Families Network (CFN) – is our online/face-to-face network of 861 families sharing Licketyspit’s ethos. Licketyspit partners share theory and practice with other children and family services through our Professionals Network. Our partnership with Scottish Women’s Aid is enabling us to deliver a pioneering national Storyplay training, co-delivery and mentoring programme.Storyplay is a welcoming approach which nurtures self-worth, reciprocity, belonging and possibility. Licketyspit works in community/cultural spaces/outdoors/schools. Evaluations demonstrate profound impact on participant confidence, social skills, emotional literacy/resilience, language, literacy, mental and physical health, well-being, family/community resilience. In 2020-2021 Storyplay was adapted for online delivery with 150 families (90% refugees/ Asylum Seekers). Digital access was provided for 72 isolated families. 38 online activity films were created to support families at home. Our New Scot’s Integration project is establishing Porridge & Play Hubs in 3 Glasgow Communities this culminates in a Storyplay Festival and Symposium. Licketyspit delivers Storyplay as: Porridge & Play, LicketyMums, Have your Say Through Play, Family Art Voyage (online); Glasgow Storyplay City and BIG Porridge & Play Glasgow and Picnic & Play with disadvantaged communities; Licketyspit regularly facilitates and reports on child consultations for Scottish Government. The successful Storyplay Schools programme restarts this autumn.
