People experiencing homelessness are among the most excluded and marginalised groups in our communities. They face the largest barriers to digital inclusion, and can be the hardest to reach - but they also have the most to gain!
We are extremely proud of the overwhelmingly positive outcomes and life experiences that has been delivered by Simon Community and their Get Digital Partners (Aberdeen Cyrenians, CATH, Turning Point Perth, Seascape, Frontline) especially in the context of a global pandemic.
The one phrase that came up over and over again when speaking with participants in the project was: "It's been a lifeline".
We have successfully developed a model to help people experiencing homelessness to participate in the digital world. Get Connected 100 provided digital devices, unlimited connectivity and support from a trained digital champion based around a digital skills framework - informed by the people we support. Our evidence demonstrates that when people have the access, skills, confidence and motivation to participate in the digital landscape it delivers LIFE CHANGING results. Digital inclusion enables many other inclusion agendas such as social, health, educational, financial and cultural inclusion. Digital inclusion doesn't just include people in 'digital' - it's a pathway back into society.
