Fresh Start Scotland
Fresh Start is committed to working with, and for the community. Community Researchers sought out the feelings of people local to the charity to fuel services for the Hub. The results include free community meet & eat meals, cooking lessons, ingredient bags with recipe sheets & tutorials, advice services on housing/debt/income maximisation, digital skills workshops, English lessons, school uniform bank referrals, a budget homeware shop and the food Pantry, alongside NESSie, (North Edinburgh Support Service), where 4 development workers from 4 charities work together offering personalised support and guide people to the best help available. Fresh Start focuses on homelessness & poverty prevention, tackling the cycle of repeat homelessness & social isolation while supporting people in the transition period. 'Starter Packs' provide household goods to people moving into their tenancy. 'Hit Squads' paint new flats making them homely. It's Fresh Start's Community Hub that offers services worthy of the Community Action Award- cooking classes, community meals, a food pantry & thrift shop prioritizing dignity and choice all operate alongside advice & upskilling initiatives including digital help, access to training, supported volunteering into employment and signposting to organisations who often use the Hub to share their services.
