North East Sensory Services (NESS)

Why you should vote for North East Sensory Services (NESS) for the People’s Choice Award

A vote for NESS pays tribute to our service users. This gentleman’s wife is dealing with rapidly progressing sight loss. "I find it difficult to put into words the benefit that my wife derived from your visits. The device is allowing her to read letters and magazine articles … suggestions for the computer have made it easier for her to order groceries and bus tickets and generally keep in touch with the world, for herself. Visits from NESS were like the US Cavalry galloping to relieve John Wayne’s beleaguered stagecoach. That is as big a compliment as I can give."

NESS supports over 6,000 people living with serious sight and/or hearing loss across North East Scotland, in line with our Mission of “Achieving Independence for Blind and Deaf People”. Many aspects of daily life have moved online –greatly disadvantaging those who are digitally excluded. This barrier is much greater for those who have a sensory impairment. Our ICT Officers increase independence, economic security and inclusion by providing tailored training and support in the use of accessible technology and digital devices to our service users of all ages living with serious visual and/or hearing loss, increasing their participation in society.
