Charlie Leavy - Children's Hospices Across Scotland (CHAS)
My passion for Equality, Diversity and Inclusion has resulted in real change being effected across CHAS. Using my personal experience of being a transgender man I have strived to educate colleagues on issues surrounding gender identity and support the development of HR policies. I have introduced networks for disabled and LGBT+ colleagues, created an EDI staff newsletter, developed awareness packs on all protected characteristics. Also I led on CHAS’s first Ramadan fundraising campaign to diversify the charity’s donor base and during the pandemic led on three virtual events which collectively raised over a third of a million pounds.
Charlie is a natural leader, and a charismatic person who, through his authentic and open nature inspires others to get behind the EDI agenda. At just 26 years old, Charlie has led cultural change in CHAS, bringing EDI issues to the forefront of our organisation. Using his personal experience of being a transgender man he has educated colleagues on key gender identity issues and has brought pace, momentum and energy to the EDI agenda in CHAS. Charlie has made huge in-roads in implementing our strategy whilst educating and developing the skills of our people in relation to the inclusion agenda.
