Edinburgh Women's Aid
Edinburgh Women's Aid works towards a society that is free from domestic abuse by offering practical and emotional support, information and advice to women and children, and by raising awareness of domestic abuse and its prevalence across society. We provide a range of services: including a helpline and crisis support, refuge accommodation, one to one and group support, court advocacy, legal advice, a peer support service, support into employment, therapeutic support for mums and children, and training and information sessions on domestic abuse for Edinburgh’s public, private and third sector organisations.
In 1973, Edinburgh Women’s Aid successfully lobbied for a property from Edinburgh Corporation to run as a domestic abuse refuge. In 2023, we marked our 50th Anniversary and bought our first property to run alongside our other refuges. EWA supports around 2000 women and 250 children annually and we continuously develop services depending on what women and children tell us they need. Fifty years of experience means we can look beyond immediate needs of domestic abuse victims and champion long-term change. We aim to always be the organisation that raises the voices of women and children affected by domestic abuse.
