Edinburgh Tool Library and LGBT Health and Wellbeing
Edinburgh Tool Library (ETL) and LGBT Health and Wellbeing (LGBTH&W) have partnered to create ‘Making With Pride’, a 3 year program providing DIY and woodworking courses to members of the LGBT+ community. Partnering to empower people to ‘Make with Pride’ has offered unique opportunities for making, learning and connecting, to LGBT+ folk who often feel excluded from these types of spaces. ETL provides the space, teachers and tools, LGBTH&W provides the students, support for the teachers and for student wellbeing.
ETL’s mission is to ensure everyone in the city has affordable access to tools, and the knowledge to use them. As they approach their 10th birthday, the library now boasts an inventory of over 2000 tools, and provides over 50 hours of community outreach teaching per month. LGBT H&W have been transforming the lives of the LGBTQ+ community across Scotland for over 20 years. They offer a wide range of support and services to help LGBT+ folk to thrive, not just survive: from counselling, to a Trans Choir; from ‘Rainbow Families’ to Coffee Posse for elders in the community.
