Buglife - The Invertebrate Conservation Trust - Don't Neglect the Night

Buglife is the only organisation in Europe dedicated to the conservation of all invertebrates. We stand up for invertebrates: the small things that run the planet. They process our waste, create soil, pollinate plants and allow life to blossom. They are the beating heart of every ecosystem. We all need their work more than we realise or imagine. Our Mission is to stop the extinction of invertebrate species and to achieve sustainable populations of invertebrates for a wildlife-rich planet where other species thrive alongside people.

Buglife’s “Don’t Neglect the Night” campaign highlights the overlooked value of nocturnal ecosystems and pushes for their inclusion in conservation policy. The campaign won rapid cross-party political support after launch, prompting parliamentary questions on light pollution and the first Scottish Parliament motion recognising the nocturnal environment, demonstrating clear political traction. Public interest and enquiries have continued to grow, boosting community engagement and awareness of actionable steps to reduce light pollution. By targeting measures under Scotland’s Natural Environment Act and advocating monitoring and reduction targets, the campaign has created a policy-ready foundation to protect nocturnal habitats ahead of the new Parliament.
