Victim Support Scotland - It's the final chance of getting to the truth
Victim Support Scotland is an independent charity dedicated to supporting people affected by any type of crime throughout Scotland. We offer free, independent, and confidential support for victims, witnesses and their families.
Anyone can access our support, regardless of when the crime took place, what type of crime it is or if it has been reported to the police. Our person-centred approach means that people impacted by crime can access our support in a way that is tailored to their individual needs.
This campaign successfully changed Parole Board for Scotland rules in cases of murder where remains have never been recovered. This now means that if this information has not been shared, then it must be considered at Parole. Crucially, for families this offers a further chance of knowing what happened to their loved one.
A unique opportunity arose through the Victims, Witnesses, and Justice Reform Bill which provided a legislative vehicle for historic change. We campaigned alongside families directly to the Minister for Justice.
With this now part of Parole Board Rules, more families will have this additional safeguard.
