Beyond Srebrenica
Beyond Srebrenica promotes awareness of the genocide in Srebrenica and wider atrocities committed in Bosnia during the war in the 1990s. By highlighting the impact of the Srebrenica Genocide and other acts of systematic discrimination which have led, or had the potential to lead, to genocide, we aim to eliminate hatred and intolerance and to promote equality and diversity. In doing so, we are helping to build a better, safer and more cohesive society here in Scotland.
Beyond Srebrenica is run entirely by volunteers, with no paid staff. Throughout 2025, we led a sustained campaign of remembrance and education to mark the 30th anniversary of the Bosnian genocide, and a decade of our work challenging hatred and prejudice. We hosted commemorations; our Education Competition engaged pupils across Scotland; our flagship theatre-in-education programme reached 10,000 students; and our delegations to Bosnia united participants across Scottish civil society, with their reflections reaching wider audiences. Thousands of Scots learned the human stories behind the headlines, gaining the courage required to challenge misinformation and hatred at home, ensuring lessons are learned.
