The Junction, Granton Youth, Wester Hailes Youth Agency, Canongate Youth & 6VT - Time to Talk
Time to Talk is a partnership between five Edinburgh youth organisations: The Junction, Granton Youth, Wester Hailes Youth Agency, Canongate Youth, and 6VT. Established in July 2024, it responds to long waiting times for clinical services and the need for a more coordinated approach to young people’s mental health. Combining youth work and therapeutic practice, the partnership provides one‑to‑one support within local communities. A distinctive element is the placement of youth workers in NHS emergency departments at weekends, including at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. The partnership also supports parents and carers through brief interventions, drop‑ins, outreach, and tailored resources.
Time to Talk has made a significant difference for young people and families across Edinburgh. As a result of the service, young people report improved wellbeing, increased confidence, and stronger family relationships. The partnership has developed an innovative, city‑wide collaboration between third‑sector youth organisations, strengthening relationships between voluntary and statutory partners and improving how support is coordinated and delivered. The overall approach builds trust, creates safe spaces, and effectively bridges clinical and community support - making mental health care more accessible and timely for young people and their families.
