Elaine Crichton - Break the Silence
Break the Silence provides free, specialist counselling in a safe, confidential space for survivors of childhood sexual abuse. It supports their healing from trauma and nurtures post-traumatic growth; it also helps partners and family members whose lives are impacted by their loved ones’ past trauma.
Break the Silence nominated its recently retired chair, Elaine Crichton, as trustee of the year in recognition of the scale of change she effected during her tenure and particularly over the last 12 months. Elaine was appointed to ‘steady the ship’ - to strengthen governance, build resilience, and develop a positive place to work. What she did was model exemplary leadership and develop a Centre of Excellence, with a refreshed and highly skilled board, a modernised set of internal procedures, a reinvigorated staff, and a clear direction for the charity’s future.
