Supporting Scotland's vibrant voluntary sector

Ian Stirton - Greener Kirkcaldy

Greener Kirkcaldy is a community-led charity working locally to bring people together, take positive action on the climate emergency and support people through fuel poverty and food insecurity. We deliver a range of projects, events and skills training to achieve the needs and goals of local people – building resilience as a community and working towards a future where everyone can live better and tread more lightly on our planet.

Ian has been Greener Kirkcaldy’s Treasurer for 13 years, providing calm advice and clear thinking alongside timely humour. When he joined, the charity had no reserves, a handful of staff and unstable funding. By shifting from reacting to risk to responsible financial planning, Ian allowed the charity to grow to meet the needs of its community.

Today, Greener Kirkcaldy employs 43 permanent staff, works with 120 volunteers and has an annual budget of £2.4 million. Ian played a key role in this transformation including securing multi-year funding, purchase of a community building and ensuring vital services continued through the pandemic.
