• Encourage participants to think about how their organisations can take action within active travel delivery.

Description

Join us as we time-travel to the year 2045. Scotland has successfully met its net zero targets. A big part of this is because we have completely changed how we travel as a society. Back in 2023, over 50% of journeys under 5km were made by private car. Now only those who cannot travel without a car use one for short journeys. We now have a fantastic walking, wheeling and cycling network, that is integrated with convenient and accessible public transport options. What does this change mean for our communities? Both in terms of our built environment, and our social norms. How did this change happen? What part did community groups and organisations play in this phenomenal change in behaviour?

In this event we will provide some context around national changes in statistics that have been achieved by this date, and then invite participants in their groups to think about what this looks like in terms of how people in their communities travel. We will use the ISM model to encourage participants to consider this through different lenses. There will be opportunity for people to feed back and then we will then move on to a retrospective look at how this change was achieved. Again setting some national context, before going into table discussions about what actions were taken or led by community groups and organisations.
