Description

The Make Your Mark in Volunteering Campaign aims to increase the number and diversity of heritage volunteers in Scotland. Established as part of Our Place in Time, Scotland's first national strategy for the historic environment, the campaign is Chaired by Volunteer Scotland and Vice Chaired by Historic Environment Scotland.

The campaign is overseen by a working group of major stakeholders in Scotland's heritage sector, as well as AMINA Muslim Women's Resource Centre, Glasgow Disability Alliance, Jambo! Radio and Scottish Refugee Council.

The campaign:

• Connects heritage volunteer organisers to a peer-to-peer support network
• Hosts events and conferences on inclusive volunteering
• Develops toolkits and resources on inclusive volunteering
• Provides EDI training and development programmes for volunteer organisers
• Promotes heritage volunteer opportunities
• Co-creates volunteer taster sessions with marginalised audiences
• Celebrates heritage volunteers

For our event at The Gathering, we're hosting a workshop around our Inclusive Volunteering Toolkit. With the support of the Scottish Government and as part of Scotland's Volunteering Action Plan, Make Your Mark surveyed heritage volunteer organisers and hosted focus groups with marginalised and underrepresented audiences. This research then informed the development of an Inclusive Volunteering Toolkit, which is being promoted across Scotland's voluntary sector.

The workshop will cover:

• Introduction to Make Your Mark
• Review of the toolkit: Inclusive volunteering top tips
• Breakout sessions: Groups will be given examples of volunteers, and brainstorm how they could make volunteer opportunities more inclusive for them

Erin Burke, Coordinator of the Make Your Mark in Volunteering Campaign. An activist heritage professional, Erin’s background and passions lie in developing LGBTQ+ and anti-racist heritage programmes and policies.

Rosie Wylie, National Volunteering and Community Development Manager at Historic Environment Scotland and Vice Chair of the Make Your Mark Campaign Group. Rosie has been an active volunteer for many years and volunteer programme development and management has featured in her work for the past 10 years. She is also a Vice Chair Director on the Board of Volunteer Scotland and an independent assessor for the UK wide Investing in Volunteers quality assurance award.

Sarah Pearce, Development Officer for Scotland at Heritage Trust Network and member of the Make Your Mark Campaign Group. Committed to ongoing learning and training in all areas related to heritage conservation and urban design, Sarah has broad ranging experience within the heritage sector in Scotland.
