- To discuss the thirteen recommendations within our new report, "Make Human Rights Justice a Reality" launched on November 2, 2023. We would like to use this space to go into detail on why each call is significant, as well as the evidence behind each call.
- We want to highlight the broken system of trying to access justice in Scotland and why there is a problem - the calls in the report seek to address these problems.
- We want to use this session to highlight the lived experience and expertise which helped us produce recommendations and discuss the impact their lack of access to justice has had and the difference these recommendations could make to many people in Scotland• We want to use this session to highlight the lived experience and expertise which helped us produce recommendations and discuss the impact their lack of access to justice has had and the difference these recommendations could make to many people in Scotland
- Description
Access to justice is a crucial aspect of a forthcoming human rights framework in Scotland. It ensures violations and effectively enforce their human rights, seeks redress for violations, and hold perpetrators accountable. By promoting equality, empowerment, and the rule of consistent international human rights law, access to justice strengthens social cohesion, deters rights violations, and upholds Scotland's international human rights obligations.
Being able to access justice, and thus actually access remedy to human rights violations, people are empowered, regardless of their background, to participate in society and advocate for their rights. Effective access to justice fosters an inclusive society that respects the dignity and freedoms of all its members.
This event will explain the thirteen recommendations for the Scottish Government in our new report on why we must all be able to access justice in an affordable, timely, effective, and accessible way.
