- Overall aim
The YouthVIP Volunteering Summit aims to enable young people to highlight to the sector, and people of influence, the importance of volunteering in young people’s lives and the vital role that young people can play in volunteering in Scotland. This includes what they gain from volunteering, from skills development to lifelong skills, as well as the opportunity to meet and learn from other young people and their experiences.
Delivering the summit at national events such as The Gathering provides an opportunity to showcase the role the wider sector can play in championing the contribution of young people in volunteering and establishes a model for how the work of YouthVIP to create opportunities for young people, remove barriers and celebrate young people’s contributions, can be embedded in practice in Scotland.
Now in its third year, the YouthVIP Summit has become a highly anticipated event and as such we would like to showcase how this can be embedded within existing structures such as Volunteers week, SCVO’s The Gathering etc and how this can be continued to be led and delivered by young people beyond the support of a core panel.
- Description
Building upon previous successful YouthVIP Summits held online in 2021 and 2022, and taking on board recommendations from young people, we will deliver our first in-person Summit event as part of The Gathering 2023. YouthVIP is a long-running programme, led by young people, facilitated by Young Scot, YouthLink Scotland, and Volunteering Matters, supported by Scottish Government. YouthVIP works nationally with partners to develop volunteering practices across Scotland, working towards equity of access to volunteering opportunities for all young people. We also seek to support more young people to volunteer and improve the experience and recognition for young people currently volunteering.
This event, designed and led by young people (Youth Volunteering Legacy Group) will focus on how we as a sector can collectively embed young people's voices into decision making processes around volunteering in Scotland and increase meaningful volunteer opportunities for young people. This event will help connect a network of organisations to engage and support ensure a legacy for YouthVIP and the young people at its heart by seeing young people across Scotland feel empowered to make lasting change that benefits their confidence, development, and social skills.
This event is open to professionals across the sector. Through this event we hope to engage as many as possible to be part of positive change that will have a meaningful impact on Scotland’s young people and voluntary sector.
