Overall aim

We live in an increasingly digital world... a world that not everyone has access to. In this session we’ll be showcasing how three different organisations have been at the forefront of tackling digital exclusion in Scotland. People Know How, Simon Community Scotland and Mhor Collective will showcase their work, lessons learnt and implications for the future of digital inclusion in Scotland.

Description

People Know How uses their social innovation approach to tackle digital exclusion both locally and nationally. Their Reconnect service supports people to improve wellbeing by increasing digital and social inclusion through digital groups delivered in local community spaces, as well as the national Connecting Scotland digital support helpline. Over the last two years the service has been looking at how this work can address the drug-death rate in Scotland; how can digital improve wellbeing for those recovering from addictions? In this session they will share their learning, with a focus on their plans in this space.

Simon Community Scotland have been leading the way in digital inclusion within Scotland’s homelessness sector through the Get Digital Scotland Programme. They recently delivered the Get Connected 500 project (connecting 500 people experiencing homelessness to the digital world). In this session they will share the life changing impact that was delivered through digital inclusion.

With over a decade of experience working in digital inclusion, Mhor Collective was thrilled about the opportunity of going global with the incredible new kids on the block, GEO Nova Scotia, a Canadian non-profit committed to tackling digital inequality. In this session, Mhor will share how this partnership came about, what it looks like now, and where we’re going next. We’ll also explore what you might need for the next bit of your own digital inclusion journey.
