What was covered in your sessions?
Advice and discussion around building long-term, meaningful partnerships between businesses and charity sector organisations. Including a panel discussion with Angharad Low, Corporate Partnerships Manager CHAS,
Kate Dixon, Partnership Lead Rock Trust and Kirsty McIntosh, Head of Partnerships Scottish Tech Army and input from Stuart MacDonald, CEO and Founder Seric Founder and CEO SmartSTEMs.
Was there any useful feedback or reflection from the participants?
Participants reflected that the session was engaging and informative and that the panel especially were full of knowledge and useful advice. Some takeaways included:
- To keep volunteers engaged, give them something to do right away, even if it's only connecting with each other and your team!
- Systemise your celebrations - make thanking and sharing your volunteers' impact a regular part of your volunteer management process.
- Avoid volunteer burnout by setting clear expectations and focusing on one task at a time. It's normal that they will step away after a little while, but if they had a good time and felt appreciated, they'll come back!
- Find values aligned businesses and ask them for a partnership.
- Be sure to capture the impact any volunteering hours have had on your organisation - companies might not be able to give cash but will want to build a partnership by getting involved in projects that could help save money and create impact, it's important to let them know how they are helping.
