- Overall aim
This flagship session will shine a light on the ways in which civic society is advancing anti-racism in Scotland. The expert panel will focus on two key areas, drawing on their own work and experience:
- what is the role of civic society in advancing anti-racism within organisations, but also in the communities they support, including challenging far right ideas where they are encountered
- challenging some of the Scottish exceptionalism that might exist, getting into the history and modern experience of racism here in Scotland
Please join this session to build your knowledge and take challenging questions back to your own work. There will be plenty of time for audience input and questions.
- Description
The Open University bring you this session, rooted in their own research and support to address and challenge racism, and drive a more equal society in Scotland.
Last summer the stark reality of systemic racism in the UK was made clear to everyone, with racist riots erupting across the UK. Civic society has a key role to play – and responsibility – in advancing anti-racism within our society. This session will bring together speakers from across civic society to share insights and action to address racism. We will explore the contemporary experiences of racially minoritised communities here in Scotland, the success of specific programmes designed to support Black Leadership and Empowerment, and crucially, the role we all must play in advancing anti-racism every day in our own lives and work.
