- Description
Join Make Your Mark for a workshop sharing key learnings from their Inclusive Volunteering Toolkit, which was published in late 2023 and funded by the Scottish Government and National Lottery Heritage Fund.
Since its launch, the toolkit has been viewed 3.4k times and promoted at 20 events across Scotland’s voluntary sector. Our workshop at The Gathering 2025 builds on the success of our offering last year, which supported attendees to reflect on where their organisation was at on their inclusion journey.
This year’s workshop will focus on inclusive recruitment. The workshop will cover:
- Benefits of volunteering: understanding people's motivations for volunteering.
- Barriers to volunteering: understanding what may prevent people from volunteering.
- Methods for advertising: understanding how to write inclusive advertisements, as well as methods and mediums to connect with a diverse range of audiences.
The Make Your Mark campaign aims to increase the number and diversity of heritage volunteers in Scotland. The campaign is Chaired by Volunteer Scotland, Vice Chaired by Historic Environment Scotland and overseen by a working group of major stakeholders in Scotland’s heritage and voluntary sectors.
The campaign:
- Connects heritage volunteer organisers to a peer-to-peer support network.
- Hosts events on inclusive volunteering.
- Develops resources on inclusive volunteering.
- Promotes heritage volunteer opportunities.
- Co-creates volunteer taster sessions with marginalised audiences.
