In this session we will explore how community-led action research approaches can be an additional tool for communities to build capacity, understanding, capture learning and make their voices heard. By the end of the session participants will:
- Have increased understanding of community-led research, what it is and how it’s done.
- Have increased knowledge of the benefits and impact of community-led research for communities, service providers, decision-makers and academics.
- Have increased understanding of how community-led research approaches can be applied in their own context.
- Description
The session hosts will share reflections and ideas of how Community-Led Research can put lived experience at the centre of local impact and systems change. Whether you are experienced in research or are completely new to it - as community leaders, community project workers, academics, influencers or policy makers – this session will help you to understand, explore and discuss Community-Led Research through:
- Sharing examples of equitable community and researcher collaborations in the Highlands and Islands (supported by BSA’s Ideas Fund)
- Exploring what has been learnt from Community Knowledge Matter’s Co-Priority Survey for mental wellbeing in rural Scotland and development of a new ethics process facilitated by Science Ceilidh.
- Hearing about SCDC’s work on community led action research and how it allows communities to take action on the issues that are important to them.
We will hear about the Community-led Research journey from Moray Wellbeing Hub - their experience of getting involved, the impact it has had for them as a local 3rd sector organisation, and their plans for the future.
Together we will consider how we move to the next level with this work, what that would look like and the benefits for the sector, and build collaborations for the future.
