Overall aim

At this event, attendees will have the opportunity to:

  • Hear new research about public attitudes to child poverty in Scotland.
  • Engage in a collaborative discussion about how to frame stories and messages effectively.
  • Find out how to get involved in Save the Children and JRF’s project, ‘Changing the Story’, and be part of a movement to end child poverty in Scotland.
Description

In Scotland today, one out of every four children is living in poverty. We know that people want to see an end to this. That is why Save the Children and the Joseph Rowntree Foundation are working together to understand what people think about the causes and solutions to child poverty, and to use this evidence to build support for policy interventions that will create lasting change.

At this event, attendees will learn about the project, ‘Changing the Story’: what it is hoping to achieve and how it aims to do this. Attendees will have the opportunity to:

  • Hear findings from a national survey and a citizens panel (a deliberative research process) which provide new evidence about what people think about measures to tackle child poverty and why.
  • Hear from a member of Changing the Story’s lived experience panel about the importance of putting lived experience at the heart of campaigning for change.
  • Discuss how we can frame messages effectively for different audiences.

Outputs from this event will contribute to ongoing work to develop and test evidence-based framing tools and guidance, which can be used by campaigners and decision-makers to advocate for policies to end child poverty. Attendees will also hear about the next steps for Changing the Story and how they can get involved in this.
