Overall aim

Harmeny is a residential childcare and education charity where consistency of relationships between staff and the young people whom we support are vital to creating a safe environment where all can thrive.

This event aims to share some of the lessons that we have learned in our journey to develop a culture of engagement and learning at Harmeny, to reduce our turnover and create a stable workforce for our children and young people.

Description

Following some extremely challenging post-covid years for recruitment and retention, Harmeny has worked holistically to create the conditions, environment, and culture within their organisation to ensure that their staff feel safe, valued, and supported. In this session Sean McCahill, Head of HR, and Anna Ziebicka, Learning and Development Manager, will share how they have introduced key policies and practices and revitalised their learning offering to help to reduce staff turnover by almost 50% since 2022. The session will share good practice and how Harmeny is responding to staff needs in terms of wellbeing, promoting employee voice, and planning for tomorrow's workforce, creating spaces for staff to build confidence, strengthen practice, and see clear routes for growth. The session will provide some practical examples of how to avoid 'tick box' exercises, improve staff engagement, and ensure that your organisation is living its values.
