Scottish Mediation aims to:

• Raise the profile of mediation in Scotland.
• Promote a wider understanding of the appropriate use of mediation in conflict management and prevention.
• Act as a professional body for mediators in Scotland.
• Provide access to quality assured mediation services.

The well established and successful Third Sector Project provides access to free or low cost professional mediation to charities and voluntary organisations throughout Scotland. An independent mediator helps people to work out and express what their issues are and then explore what options might be available for moving forward. This provides a constructive alternative to traditional dispute resolution processes which is quicker, less stressful and usually less costly.Issues that have been successfully mediated include

• Disagreements between Board members.
• Employee disputes and grievances .
• Difficult relationships  between volunteers and employees.
• Issues arising from partnership and collaborative working.
• User complaints

Scottish Mediation also provides a range of conflict management workshops both online and face to face including a very popular “Managing Relationships in the Third Sector” event  which equips people with skills drawn from mediation to help them avoid conflict and nip issues in the bud before they escalate into time consuming, stressful and costly disputes.
