Shared Care Scotland works to ensure that unpaid carers across Scotland can access regular, meaningful short breaks that helps maintain wellbeing and quality of life. We recognise that caring can be rewarding, but it can also place significant demands on a person's time, energy and emotional wellbeing. By promoting, developing and supporting access to short breaks, we help carers find opportunities to rest, recharge, pursue personal interests, strengthen relationships and find balance in their lives.

As the national lead organisation for short breaks, we work in partnership with carers, communities, charities, public bodies and policymakers to improve the availability, accessibility and diversity of break opportunities across Scotland. We administer the Short Breaks Fund (3 of 4 programmes), investing in programmes that provide flexible and personalised support to unpaid carers of all ages and backgrounds. With the support of the Scottish Government the Fund helps thousands of carers and families each year access the right break at the right time, improving wellbeing, reducing isolation and supporting caring relationships.
