Inclusion Scotland

Why you should vote for Inclusion Scotland for the People’s Choice Award

Disabled people have been perhaps the most overlooked group in climate change negotiations, policymaking, and program implementation to date. So, when we started this work, we were a lone voice as a Disabled People’s Organisation, certainly in Scotland. One year on, and as a result of our advocacy work, the Scottish Government, the Climate Assembly, Stop Climate Chaos, Friends of the Earth, The Environmental Rights Centre in Scotland and many others are all discussing the need for inclusive climate action and actively involving disabled people in their work. A vote for us is a vote for climate justice.

Despite growing international recognition of the susceptibility of disabled people to climate impacts, disability issues have received little attention from practitioners and policymakers internationally, and in the context of climate governance in Scotland. Inclusion Scotland’s programme of work is aimed at tackling this exclusion and getting disabled people involved in international, national and local decision making on climate change. By foregrounding involvement, accessibility, inclusion and tackling inequality for disabled people, we hope to ensure that our responses to a changing climate in Scotland are socially just and do not make disabled people's lives harder.
