Sustainable Thinking Scotland CIC

Why you should vote for Sustainable Thinking Scotland CIC for the People’s Choice Award

From our off-grid community hub, we deliver a range of projects covering themes such as food growing, community wellbeing, and green waste recycling.

With the rising need for support nationally, we hope our work will develop a blueprint for how communities can provide sustainable social support to its members in the long-term.

We want to put a farm behind every foodbank, financed by solving ecological and environmental problems at a national scale. Working with the third-sector to offer green education and employement opportunities, leading to a connected, climate conscious, and resilient society, and a more sustainable thinking Scotland.

With our green waste recycling project, we aim to create a circular economy around biochar - stable carbon obtained from 'baking' biomass.

We produce this from local wood waste, providing significant carbon savings of 3 tCO2e removed for each tonne we convert, and the finished biochar product can be used to tackle several agricultural, ecological, and environmental issues.

We are currently developing a biochar which can help prevent toxic algae blooms in water, using biochar to 'soak up' the nutrient pollution it uses to grow, so we can use the nutrients to grow more food in our STS Foodbank Farm.
