The Forget Me Notes Project
The Forget Me Notes Project is about bringing people together. Dementia and caring for those with dementia can rob people of connection. The COVID19 pandemic has further forced people apart but, using digital ways of working, we have been able to break down barriers and enable people to come together. Singing, laughing and sharing together has built a community where people have felt uplifted, heard, supported, and less alone. Although working digitally has been challenging, it has allowed us to support more people from a wider area and has now become a core part of the services we offer.
Our charity uses music to build community, combat social isolation and aid self-expression. Through the pandemic we have found that embracing digital ways of working has enabled us to better support people living with dementia and others:
• Zoom choir has created a community of people from all over the country, where people can share memories and feel supported;
• Providing DVD’s to care homes has been a way to help a very isolated group;
• Our partnership with Capital Theatres, live streaming concerts to residential settings and people’s homes has given people a voice and allowed their stories to be heard.
