Christopher Mathers - Quarriers
Why you should vote for Christopher Mathers - Quarriers for the People’s Choice Award
Chris gives freely of his time and experience, and appreciates how others struggle. He has been involved in lots of fundraising activities including a beach clean-up and facing his fear of needles and raising £3000 by getting an epilepsy related tattoo to show epilepsy is not something to be hidden. He is a great asset to the service, being a mentor for other men with epilepsy to discuss the difficulties they may be facing. One young dad supported by the service said “Not only did Chris help me with coping, but he also saved my family. Chris just gets it.”
Chris became a volunteer with Epilepsy Community Outreach after being diagnosed in his 30s and receiving support from the service. As well as being part of his local epilepsy support group, he now also facilitates sessions and has always made it a fun, engaging and welcoming group for everyone who attends. At the request of others, he ran virtual weekly groups during the pandemic so support could continue and everyone could stay in touch. Chris also has a full-time job and offers one-to-one peer support to other men living with epilepsy.
