Why you should vote for Simon Community Scotland for the People’s Choice Award
This project has been developed and delivered by women who often experience significant exclusion and who are used to not having their voices heard. By deliberately creating the opportunity for women to feel safe, respected and heard we were able to develop digital resources that can keep women safe and well. The creation of digital resources and the By My Side platform allows us to reach many more women across Scotland. This has been an incredible partnership with women who use drugs alongside our digital partners in the Mhor Collective, Digtal Lifelines, AND Digital and SCVO.
Working with over 100 women we created digital resources that responded to the unique voices and challenges of women who use drugs. We realised that few if any digital harm reduction resources responded to the experiences of women so we set about changing that with over 100 women involved in 42 design labs and 45 groups to create a unique set of resources for women, by women. This culminated in the development of an App 'By My Side' that included a 'check on me' function. Not one of the women involved has lost their life to a drug overdose
